The seventeen-foot bronze statue of george Washington, the work of Donald de Lue and Bryant Baker is a gift from the Louisiana Grand Lodge Of Free and Accepted Masons. It shows the robust father of the country wearing a masonic apron and a pendant with jewelry as master of his lodge. He holds a gavel in his right hand and his hat in the left. It was dedicated February 8, 1960.
Main Library, New Orleans Central Business District. Opened in 1960. In Hurricane Katrina, some broken windows and floor damage from roof leaks; basement stayed dry. Partially reopened on 31 October 2005; fully operational as of August 2007. Some of the Main Library facility was used by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other federal agencies and contractors working on disaster recovery. (
