Croix de Provence (Cross of Provence) is a 19 m high monument located at the top of the western point of the Sainte-Victoire mountain in Bouches-du-Rhône at 946 meters above the sea level. The cross of Provence is not located on the highest point of the Sainte-Victoire massif, Pic des Mouches (1 011 m), but at the top of a another remarkable peak close to Prieuré Sainte-Victoire. The Cross is natural and beloved target of many hikers for spectacular views over this part of Bouches-du-Rhône. The Cross is the fourth of its kind erected in this place, the three others having suffered the ravages of time and having had to be rebuilt. The current Cross was built on the initiative of the parish priest of Rousset, father Meissonnier, in 1875. The monument was restored for the first time in 1982, then in 2004.
The Croix de Provence is accessible by several hiking trails - we recommend starting from the Les Cabassols bus stop (direct ascent to south - Sentier de Grande randoée 9, GR 9) and west descent route (Sentier Imoucha) to the Barrage de Bimont dam.
