En source city of Niort:
The Le Lambon river covers 39 km, between the Couarde, in Pays Mellois, and its confluence with the Sèvre niortaise, just downstream from the source of the Vivier. It winds through a valley rich in meadows and groves.

From June to October, the Lambon presents regular assecs. Its water level is reduced in places to a few puddles. In winter, the floods, often short, flood the bottom of the valley, thus preventing any urbanization.

The alternation of floods and storms favors the reception of a specific fauna and flora. Amphibians (midwife toad, green frog) appreciate the calm waters of the Lambon and its bocage environment. A few species breed there, such as the Puncted Pelodyte, which is only present in Niort on this river.

Reptiles have also been observed, such as the Grass snake which finds a food reservoir there, but also several heritage species of dragonflies (whitish agion, in particular) which reproduce in its bed.

This river is also of interest for birds in winter, especially the little egret, the Cetti's bouscarle and the redhorse.

In terms of flora, the large beds of watercress that grow in its bed have made the reputation of the Lambon.

La rivière Le Lambon parcourt 39 km, entre la Couarde, en Pays Mellois, et sa confluence avec la Sèvre niortaise, juste en aval de la source du Vivier. Elle serpente dans une vallée riche en prairies et bosquets.

De juin à octobre, le Lambon présente des assecs réguliers. Son niveau d'eau se réduit par endroits à quelques flaques. En hiver, les crues, souvent courtes, inondent le fond de la vallée, interdisant ainsi toute urbanisation.

L'alternance de crues et d'assecs favorise l'accueil d'une faune et d'une flore spécifique. Les amphibiens (crapaud accoucheur, grenouille verte) apprécient les eaux calmes du Lambon et son environnement bocager. Quelques espèces s'y reproduisent, comme le Pélodyte ponctué, qui n'est présent à Niort que sur ce cours d'eau.

Des reptiles ont également été observés, comme la Couleuvre à collier qui y trouve un réservoir alimentaire, mais aussi plusieurs espèces patrimoniale de libellules (agrion blanchâtre, notamment) qui se reproduisent dans son lit.

Cette rivière présente aussi un intérêt pour les oiseaux en période hivernale, notamment pour l’aigrette garzette, la bouscarle de Cetti et le chevalier guignette.

Côté flore, les importants massifs de cresson qui se développent dans son lit ont fait la réputation du Lambon.
