This is the new bridge for the Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) railroad over I-235 just south of NE 50th St. The new two 275 foot thru-truss spans replaced the old two 80 foot skewed thru-plate girder spans. The bridge replacement was a $17.5 million part of an $81 million project to widen I-235 as it connects to I-44.
The new bridge spans were set in place in just 59 hours, more than 6 hours earlier than scheduled. I-235 was closed from Friday, January 26th at 7 PM and was re-opened at 6 PM on Monday January 29th.
BNSF workers re-routed the tracks from the old bridge on February 26, 2018.
My pictures were taken from just inside the wall of the southbound entrance ramp to I-235 from NE 50th St.
