The city's name is pronounced "DEE-port", named for Colonel Dee Thompson, whose final resting place is just up the road from here at Highland Cemetery. You'll find the water tower at the end of Main Street where it turns west to become Monroe Street. It stands about 90 feet high, painted silver with "Deport" on one side. The knob on the top is actually U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey Benchmark DM1340, for those who collect benchmarks.
