"Description:
A truncated obelisk on a wide step carries the statue. Kellermann mouths wide open the famous cry of "long live the nation" to galvanize his troops. The monument is surrounded by twelve cannons. History
1891: On the initiative of C. Jesson, mayor of Valmy, a committee is formed to prepare for the celebration of the centenary of the battle and a national subscription is launched. 1892: inaugurated on the occasion of the first centenary of the Battle of Valmy, on September 20 by Léon Bourgeois, Minister of Public Education. “

“ François Christophe Kellermann
François Étienne Christophe Kellermann (more commonly called François Christophe Kellermann), born May 28, 1735 in Strasbourg and died September 13, 1820 in Paris, is a French soldier and politician.
Coming from the nobility, he began his military career in 1750 and reached the rank of field marshal (brigadier general) in 1788. However, he adhered to the ideas of the Revolution and was at the head of the Moselle army during of the Battle of Valmy (September 20, 1792). In 1793, he barely escaped Terror, and was then marginalized militarily. "
Under the Empire, he was elevated to the dignity of Marshal of the Empire and entered the Senate. In 1808, the Emperor gave him the title of Duke of Valmy in memory of his victory. He then rallied to Louis XVIII who made him Grand Cross of the Order of Saint-Louis, governor of Strasbourg and peer of France.
In total, he commanded the French army in forty-three battles or combats. "

François Étienne Christophe Kellermann (plus couramment appelé François Christophe Kellermann), né le 28 mai 1735 à Strasbourg et mort le 13 septembre 1820 à Paris, est un militaire et homme politique français.
Issu de la noblesse, il commence sa carrière militaire en 1750 et atteint le grade de maréchal de camp (général de brigade) en 1788. Il adhère cependant aux idées de la Révolution et se trouve à la tête de l'armée de la Moselle lors de la bataille de Valmy (20 septembre 1792). En 1793, il échappe de peu à la Terreur, et est ensuite marginalisé sur le plan militaire. "
Sous l'Empire, il est élevé à la dignité de maréchal d'Empire et entre au Sénat. En 1808, l'Empereur lui donne le titre de duc de Valmy en souvenir de sa victoire. Il se rallie ensuite à Louis XVIII qui le fait grand-croix de l'ordre de Saint-Louis, gouverneur de Strasbourg et pair de France.
Au total, il a commandé l'armée française dans quarante-trois batailles ou combats. "
