The establishment of the Elbeland Museum in Podebrady, like many other museums in Czech lands, was associated with the preparations for the large nationwide Czech-Slavonic Ethnographic Exhibition in Prague in 1895. The greatest credit for the foundation of the Museum in Podebrady (1902) is connected with the Podebrady pharmacist and outstanding versatile regional researcher, Jan Hellich, who headed the Museum Association from its foundation until his death in 1931. The building of the old school near the church was used for the needs of the Museum in 1906 and here the museum is located even today.
