Completion of the bridge occurred in 1908 and it was the first bridge to span the Tallapoosa River between Dadeville and New Site. Named in honor of Nora E. Miller, it was built by a Dadeville builder, W.H. Wynn, and his son. Costing $13,896, it was constructed using stones from the riverbank. Originally the roof was made of wood and later replaced with tin shingles. Instead of Nails it was held together with oak pegs. At 858 feet it was the longest covered bridge in Alabama and one of the longest in the USA.
Heavier vehicles made the bridge obsolete and a new bridge was constricted in 1955. After the creation of Horseshoe Bend national Military Park in 1959, local preservationists hoped to restore it as a pedestrian walkway, but these hopes were soon dashed as a large portion collapsed into the river on June 23, 1963. The remains were soon removed after.
