The building this doorway is in was the second school built at this location. Construction started in 1919, was completed in 1922 and opened as a junior high school in February of 1922.
This Collegiate Gothic building was designed by architect Joseph E. Rosatti. Rosatti also designed St. Mary's Catholic school, and a few buildings on the North Dakota State University and Dickinson State University campuses. Information from NDSU Archives
The building is brick and the doorway is accented with yellow ceramic tiles, lions and outdoor lights. One of the pictures shows where metal door holders have been removed. I attended school here in the mid-70s and on warm days the doors would be held open for ventilation; the open doors also meant we did not have to slow down on the way to recess after lunch. That was back when the doorways still had wooden doors with lattice windows.
This building is still used as an elementary school, be sure to visit only visit when school is not in session. Street parking is available in the avenue north of the school.
