Isle Royale National Park is a remote island wilderness in the middle of Lake Superior. It is only accessible by ferry, seaplane, or private watercraft. Weather influences traveling to and from the island, as well as your trip once you arrive.

Dogs, cats and other mammals are not allowed on the island. This includes pets on boats within the park boundaries, which extend 4 ½ miles into Lake Superior from the outermost land areas of the park. Visitors bringing pets to Isle Royale will be required to leave immediately. The park's primary concern is for the protection of wildlife species; the inadvertent transmission of disease or parasites into the largely isolated Isle Royale ecosystem could have devastating effects on wildlife populations.

All visitors must make the journey across Lake Superior to reach Isle Royale. Upon arrival, there are a multitude of ways to explore the archipelago by land or water. Whether you embark upon a backpacking trip in the island's wilderness or explore its many coves and bays by boat, Isle Royale offers something for everyone. While on Isle Royale you can go backpacking on 165 miles of trails, camping at 36 campgrounds, canoeing & kayaking, day hiking, boating, fishing, or scuba diving. You might enjoy a guided boat tour, a Ranger talk or guided hike, or have the kids take part in the Junior Ranger (6-12) or Wilderness Ranger (12-17) Programs.

The park charges a $7 per person daily entrance fee to enter or remain within the park per calendar day. The Isle Royale Season Pass costs $60 and will cover up to 3 people traveling with the pass holder.
If you don't take your own boat to the island you will want to consider the cost of one of the ferries to Island Royale.
