Like many men of vision, The Rev. Daniel Hauer was a man with a dream. This particular dream was to build a new Lutheran witness to the community of “Spring Forge” known today as Spring Grove.
In the fall of 1878, the beginning of Dr. Hauer’s dream was realized when the Lutherans of Spring Forge were called together to form a building committee for what would eventually be St. Paul Lutheran Church.
On June 2, 1879, the cornerstone of the first building was laid. Less then a year later, in the spring of 1880, the building was completed. On March 10, the first organizational meeting was held. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Hauer resigned so that a fulltime pastor could be called. On April 17th, 1880, Rev. M. J. Alleman became the new pastor.
In the Spring of 1906, after only twenty six years of life, St. Paul made plans to build a new church edifice. Easter Sunday of 1907 was the last day of worship in the “old” church. On May 23, 1909, the new present day church was dedicated.
