The Post Office was originally constructed in 1892 as separate postal and telegraph buildings with a laneway between over which a clock tower was located, the laneway has since been enclosed and now forms the central entry to the building. The two storey sandstone building in Classic Revival style has a double storey colonnade facing both streets.
