This is not a grave, as Sherin is buried north of here in Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. Findagrave does have a listing for this gray, granite bench as a cenotaph, and it is impossible to visit and not find something new left here by a kind soul whose life has been touched by her story. It was placed by Restland Memorial Park, and butterflies complement her name, "Sherin", and "A Life that Touches Others Goes on Forever."

Sherin Mathews didn't get to live the life she deserved. Born in India, she was abandoned at birth, found in the bushes, and eventually, adopted and brought to the United States by Wesley and Sini Mathews in 2016. She lived with her adoptive parents in neighboring Richardson until she disappeared on October 7, 2017. Wesley Mathews initially claimed that he was trying to give her milk at 3 AM, and when she resisted, he put her outside to punish her, and she walked off. Her little body was found in a culvert, wrapped in a plastic bag, on October 22. Wesley Mathews then changed his story, now indicating that he "physically assisted" Sherin in drinking her milk, and she choked on it and died.

Sini Mathews was initially charged with child endangerment, but those charges were ultimately dropped, and their biological child was taken away from them. Wesley Mathews was identified as the sole assailant. During his trial, the coroner's report revealed to the jury that Sherin had multiple injuries that were healing, including some broken bones, and these injuries took place while Sherin was in the "care" of the Mathews couple. Mathews cried "foul" about the abuse's exposure, but he tried every trick in the book to escape punishment, including a strange claim that he wanted to do something "nice" for Sherin after she died, wrapping her in a plastic bag, putting her in a culvert, and praying that she would be resurrected. Meanwhile, Sini Mathews, who was in the house at the time the crime was committed, was a registered nurse who could have assisted. The jury didn't buy any of it, as Wesley Mathews was tried and convicted of capital murder in 2019 and sentenced to life in prison.
