Constructed in 1882 it is the longest unsupported, unlined tunnel, driven 192m through solid granite, in the southern hemisphere. Built for railway to haul goods and minerals to Bundaberg from Mt Perry. The Railway closed in 1960 and rail pulled up. A gravel road now passes through the tunnel, which is home to a colony of large bent-wing bats.
