This household that sponsors this Little Free Library has eclectic tastes in both art and literature, so the extra wide bright blue community book exchange unit in the middle of the front yard seems to blend in with the racks of hanging bottles, the potted plants, the objects d'art suspended in the tree branches and the cobblestone walkway that wends past the bright red rocker-sofa in the yard.
The book exchange unit is an extra wide but only single book deep book deposit/exchange made of painted plywood. It looks like a book sandwich because the bottom board is an oversized rectangle that had about 6-8 inches of "porch space" surrounding the wood frame of the actual library area holding the books. The roof is similarly oversized in the same manner as the foundational board. There are two doors that open from the center to reveal a long row of a single line of books. There were the typical pulp fiction novels; but surprisingly, there were more hardback history books about personalities or national events than I would have expected. This was nice because I exchanged the book I brought to leave behind for a book I took about President George H. W. Bush, written by his son, President George W. Bush! Sounded like a book written from an insightful perspective.
The concept of the Little Free Library is for people within a community to stop by the unit and examine the selection of books at that time. If you see a book you'd like to read, feel free to take it out and take it with you. If you have books at home that you have already read, you are encouraged to take these books to a Little Free Library and donate them into any little library's book selection. This concept is summarized as: Take A Book: Return a Book. Feel free to take a book you want to read, and feel free to return a book/add a book to this exchange unit or any others you know of. Your contribution of books keeps the sections varied and keeps the little libraries filled with book for others. Its is a win-win situation.
