Like so many small cemeteries, this cemetery has seen its share of
neglect and abuse. If there is still a twenty foot buffer around the cemetery, it's tight, as there are two homes up close and personal along the fence on the east and west sides, but it's in their own best interests to keep their properties maintained, which is good for their cemetery neighbors. Today, a memorial stands near the sidewalk, listing those who are believed to be buried here, along with "others known only to God." There is a remaining pedestal, provenance unknown, but it's possible that it belongs to
Snyder Kennedy himself, as his headstone is now over at Perry Cemetery, safe with another pioneer family.
The Kennedy family would be comparative latecomers to the area (1858), which in no way diminishes their pioneer efforts, as there were already families here in the 1840s as part of the Peters Colony grants. Snyder Kennedy established this cemetery just a year after his family's arrival, and he is one of five veterans of the Civil War buried here. It appears that a child, Jenny Kennedy, was the first burial here, and oddly, two Huggins children (whose mother was a Kennedy) were the final burials in 1908.
Parking here is difficult. Please don't use the parking lot across the street at the rehab center, and your best bet is to simply go around the block and park on Rodin Lane. You'll have to walk back around, as the gate on that side is locked, but you don't have much of a walk. Walk-by waymarkers will simply get their "Visited, TFTW!" photo from that side anyways, but that's not the good reading that faces Jackson Road.
