The Lamington bridge spans the Mary River on the former Bruce Highway was opened to traffic on the 30 October 1896, replacing a high level timber bridge built in 1874 that was partially destroyed by abnormal floods in 1893. The reinforced concrete bridge comprising eleven spans of 15.2 m with a total length of 187m, larger than any known comparable bridge in the world at that time.The bridge features side rails and light posts that can be removed in case of a high flood, the pedestrian walkway rails are hinged to lay down .
