A nice walk in this troglodyte district. Une belle ballade dans ce quartier trogodyte.

Intertwining arches underground and small shops carved into the rock await your visit. A panorama overlooking the Loire, crenellated castles of tuffeau, niches, dovecotes, loopholes, galleries, these are the wonders of the Loire. In the past, a network of galleries linked the houses on this side of the Loire shore between Saumur and Fontevraud. Most are today fragmented into individual vaults, mushroom houses, but there remains of this past the vestiges of a life in the rock that I invite you to discover through the troglodyte route of Souzay-Champigny. The first part of the visit will take place underground, the second on the hillside.

Des entrelacs d'arches sous terre et des petites boutiques creusées dans la roche n'attendent que votre visite. Un panorama donnant sur la Loire, des châteaux crénelés de tuffeau, des niches, des pigeonniers, des meurtrières, des galeries, voilà les merveilles du bord de Loire. Autrefois, un réseau de galeries reliaient entre-elles les maisons de ce coté-ci de la rive ligérienne entre Saumur et Fontevraud. La plupart sont aujourd'hui morcelées en caveaux individuels, en champignonnières, mais il reste de ce passé les vestiges d'une vie dans la roche que je vous propose de découvrir à travers le parcours troglodytique de Souzay-Champigny. La première partie de la visite se déroulera sous terre , la seconde à flanc de coteau.
