Fondée en 1834, Combier est aujourd'hui la plus ancienne et la plus connue des distilleries du Val de Loire en activité et le dernier témoin d'une industrie prospère au XIXème siècle.
Si le caractère utilitaire l'emporte, on note une recherche esthétique lisible dans l'harmonie des bâtiments et plus particulièrement la salle de distillation qui abrite de magnifiques alambics en cuivre rouge toujours en fonctionnement. En effet, l'architecte s'est inspiré des manèges de la fabuleuse Ecole de Cavalerie toute proche pour cette salle avec ses grands baies en arc de plein cintre.
Elle bénéficie de sa position au centre du Jardin de la France pour s’approvisionner en produits locaux : fruits, fleurs et plantes aromatiques et profite de l’arrivée des fruits et épices exotiques par la Loire. A travers son histoire de près de deux siècles ses maîtres distillateurs au savoir-faire uniques ; à la fois voyageurs, jardiniers, cuisiniers, ingénieurs et penseurs audacieux et innovants n’ont cessé de créer de nouveaux élixirs constituant un patrimoine français exceptionnel, reconnu depuis 2016 par le label Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant.

Founded in 1834, Combier is today the oldest and best known of the Loire Valley distilleries in operation and the last witness to a prosperous industry in the 19th century.
If the utilitarian character prevails, there is a visible aesthetic research in the harmony of the buildings and more particularly the distillation room which shelters magnificent stills in red copper still in operation. Indeed, the architect was inspired by the rides of the fabulous nearby Cavalry School for this room with its large bays in semicircular arch.
It benefits from its position at the center of the Jardin de la France to stock up on local products: fruits, flowers and aromatic plants and benefits from the arrival of exotic fruits and spices from the Loire. Through its history of nearly two centuries its master distillers with unique know-how; travelers, gardeners, cooks, engineers and daring and innovative thinkers have never stopped creating new elixirs constituting an exceptional French heritage, recognized since 2016 by the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label.
