This bronze carving of a World War i British Infantry man is on the face of the Eccles stone cenotaph.

The cenotaph made from Portland Stone surmounted by a bronze statue stands on a three step base. It was erected in 1925 and was amended after the Second World War to also commemorate that war.
The relief carving is underneath a carving of the word PAX in the stone of the cenotaph.
The soldier is wearing a helmet, uniform jacket, trousers, socks and boots and is standing in mourning pose with head bowed and rifle reversed.
