This stone carving of a batsman playing the game of cricket is set into the wall of a pub that used to be called the Cricketers Arms.

The pub is opposite some college recreation grounds that host a number of sports including cricket.
The carving shows a batsman in front of his wicket, bending over with cricket bat in hand ready to receive a cricket bowl.
He is wearing pads to protect his legs but unlike a modern day cricketer is wearing a sift cap, rather than a hard protective helmet.
After the recession of 2008 the pub closed for a while but reopened in 2013 as a speakeasy style cocktail bar, named the Mad Hatter. The new name of the pub is a fictional character in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland which was written in Oxford.
There are also a number of murals on the walls of the pub now in cartoon style depicting varios scenes from the pub.
