This wheel measuring 4.6 metres in diameter was the flywheel of a 90 ton / 316 kilowatt Linde Lightfoot double-acting piston type refrigeration compressor. It was installed in 1919 at a coast of $12000. It was driven by d.c. power from the Brisbane tramway system until 1926 when it was converted to a.c. power. With the installation of a modern 500 ton / 1760 kilowatt centrifugal compressors in 1972 this machine was decommissioned after 53 years of continuous service.
