FR Le village de La Boissière est un ensemble de hameaux et de mas regroupés autour d’une église paroissiale, Saint-Martin de Valras, dont les origines pourraient être antérieures à l’époque carolingienne. Cette forme d’habitat dispersé révèle une certaine autonomie de ses occupants, qui vivaient de l’agriculture, de l’élevage et de l’exploitation forestière.

Nous savons aujourd’hui que l’église Saint-Martin de Valras, son cimetière et les revenus qu’elle procurait à son propriétaire, appartenaient aux Seigneurs des Deux Vierges de Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian. Au tout début du XIIe siècle, ces derniers font don de cette église à l’Abbaye d’Aniane. C’est un monument de petite taille (la population de tous les mas réunis regroupait à peine plus de trois cent personnes), dont le chevet primitif présente toutes les caractéristiques de la fondation d’une église préromane : pas d’abside semi-circulaire mais un chevet carré limité par quatre piliers. Elle est située à l’extérieur du village et rien ne prouve qu’elle fût entourée d’un habitat villageois, mais plutôt d’une simple exploitation agricole.
EN The village of La Boissière is a set of hamlets and farmhouses grouped around a parish church, Saint-Martin de Valras, whose origins may have predated the Carolingian era. This dispersed form of housing reveals a certain autonomy of its occupants, who lived from agriculture, stockbreeding and logging.

We now know that the Saint-Martin de Valras church, its cemetery and the income it procured for its owner, belonged to the Lords of the Two Virgins of Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian. At the very beginning of the 12th century, the latter donated this church to Aniane Abbey. It is a small monument (the population of all the farmhouses together was just over three hundred people), whose primitive apse has all the characteristics of the foundation of a pre-Romanesque church: no semicircular apse but a square chevet limited by four pillars. It is located outside the village and there is no evidence that it was surrounded by village housing, but rather by simple farming.
