" La Chapelle Saint-Pierre (1723) consacrée aux patrons pêcheurs, était autrefois l'église du quartier du Courtgain. Une messe "de la bonne pêche" y était célébrée pour les sauterelliers (pêcheurs de crevettes) en avril et pour les harenguiers (pêcheurs de harengs) en novembre.
Avant la construction de la Chapelle Saint-Pierre, qui remonte à la première moitié du 18ème siècle, le Courtgain ne possédait pas d'église. Coupés de la ville hautepar un bras de mer, ses habitants ont dû s'adresser au pape Urbain VIIInpour obtenir satisfaction.
La chapelle et la maison du chapelain ont été construites à l'aide de dons et de souscription, sur un terrain cédé par la famille Blancart.
Lors de sa restauration en 1884, le toit a été couvert d'ardoises et un nouveau clocher a remplacé celui qui avait disparu en 1786 après une tempête. La chapelle sert aujourd'hui de lieu d'exposition. "
