Construite comme tour défensive elle fut édifié au début de la construction du village au 8e siècle. Elle fut aménagé de 6 meurtrières et donnait accès à l’entrer du village.

Au XIIe siècle en même temps que l’édification des remparts la tour eut droit à un autre étage.

Bien plus tard elle fut équipé d’une horloge. En 1911 la préfecture autorise l’installation d’une horloge à remontage huitaine. Elle doit être remonté toute les semaines et marche encore parfaitement bien aujourd’hui.

Un clocher en fer forgé appelé en Languedoc un ’’Campanile’’, fait office de carillon pour sonner les heures.

In the 12th century, at the same time as the construction of the ramparts, the tower was entitled to another floor.

Much later it was fitted with a clock. In 1911 the prefecture authorized the installation of a eight-hour winding clock. It has to be reassembled every week and still works perfectly well today.

A wrought iron bell tower called in Languedoc a "Campanile", acts as a chime to strike the hours.
