High-Seas Workhorse
The Sea King was developed for the U.S. Navy in the late 1950's. Powerful, robust and versatile, it soon became the anti-submarine helicopter of choice for many navies, including Canada's. An innovative haul down device, nicknamed the "Beartrap", enabled the Sea King to land on Canadian warships, even in bad weather. Civilian versions of the Sea King were acquired by governments and companies for passenger flights, rescue operations, and oil rig support.
