"The Carmel Woman’s Club is the second oldest organization in Carmel. It was founded on December 6th, 1925 when fifty-four women met at the Pine Inn and signed their names as Charter Members. According to the 1920 Census there were only 660 residents in the one square mile which constituted Carmel-by-the-Sea, so a large percentage of the population were charter members." (
