AN IRIDESCENT
DRAGONFLY
An iridescent dragonfly
is pirouetting in the sky;
displaying an ability
to fly with great agility;
sustaining a fragility,
a dazzling versatility.
It swam beneath the waters deep
for years before it made the leap
to pepper and patrol the skies,
swerving multi-faceted eyes
and whirring wings to mesmerize
mosquitoes, midges, butterflies.
The nymph, all teeth and wide-hinged jaws,
discards its shell - away it soars;
speeding, racing, fast as a car,
dancing a flying cha-cha-cha;
In mating-wheels it's spinning far,
an elusive aerial star.
