Rhino Mania was a summer art installation project in and around Chester + one at Euston station! There were 62 large sponsored rhinos designed by various artists, and 132 smaller rhinos designed by schools. Rhino Mania took place between 5th July and 12th September 2010.
The sculptures were designed and created by community groups and schools.
Each rhino was sold at a charity auction after the event, with 75% of the proceeds raised from the auction being donated to the Black Rhino Field Conservation Programme in Africa managed by Chester Zoo and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, a Chester-based charity.
The other 25% helped support and run the event.
The animals are made of glass fibre and decorated with paints and various materials chosen by the artists.
They are roughly 6ft (1.83m) long, 5ft (1.52m) high, 2ft (60.96cm) wide and weigh 60kg (just over nine stone). Source: (
