The Piazza Santa Croce Fountain dates back to 1673 and is based on a design of the architect Pier Maria Baldi. The marble fountain has an octagonal base. Above the base is a pedestal with two tiered basins. Above the upper basin is a crown supported by a tri-lobed Florentine lily.
Water flow from spigots just below the tri-lobed lily into the upper basin. Then it overflows into the basins below before finally spurting out from lion heads on two sides of the octagonal basin into smaller catch basins below.
The fountain was inactive for many years. On April 11, 2017, after a six months restoration project that cost 57,000 euros, the fountain began operating again. The fountain is now surrounded by an iron railing.
