Nguyn Tri Phuong (1806-73) is a respected figure in Vietnam due to his support for the Vietnamese emperor against the French and for his victories against the Kingdom of Thailand. Of note, he died in French custody due to a hunger strike and his refusal of French medical treatment.

This life-sized statue, constructed of stone, stands at the entrance to the Da Nang City Museum. The statue stands on a plinth with his name, dates, and the title "danh tuong" which translates as 'general'. The statue is crafted in a rather modern, simplistic style with flowing robes, a sword, and depicts the general in his mature years.
