Marysville is located fairly well north into Cooke County, where it's pretty desolate, although there's plenty of ranch activity. The only way to get here is by taking unpaved county roads. They're not unimproved, a little bumpy here and there, but they can get quite muddy when it rains: Travelers are encouraged to visit on days when it's not so wet, and don't drive up here on a near-empty gas tank.

Marysville is located on South Fish Creek -- hence, the Lodge's name -- fifteen miles northwest of Gainesville. Lore is that it was named either for Mary Corn, an early settler, or for her brother's hometown, Marysville, CA. There was a post office here from 1873 into the 1940s, and by 1900, there were 250 residents, several churches, and multiple businesses. With World War II, though, the construction of Camp Howze near Gainesville resulted in the loss of significant property around Marysville, resulting in its decline. Its businesses were gone by 1970 -- the Baptist church survives in 2020 -- and the population was nearly a third of what it had been in 1900. Today, there might be twenty people living in the area.

Marysville's most famous resident was Daniel Montague, for whom Montague County to the west was named.
