Addy Whitmore has family members in the service. She created the memorial with the help of her family and the village. There were several fund raising events for this project.

"For her Girl Scout Gold Award, Addy Whitmore decided that she would do something for Veterans. Whitmore says she has multiple family members in the service.
In their honor, Whitmore created the Village of Nichols Veterans Memorial Park.
She says it took a ton of time to complete the project, but it was worth it.
“To be able to get the award, you have to do 80 hours of work,” Whitmore said. “So we did a bunch of fundraising and then got the community together to actually construct it. It was definitely a lot of work, took a lot of effort, but we eventually made it happen.”
The park officially opened on Nov. 9."
