A beautiful animated neon sign advertises Sigel's Fine Wines & Great Spirits at 5757 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX. It's been working for the company in multiple locations since the 1950s.

Sigel's has been in operation since 1905, and across multiple locations, they have an excellent selection of beer, wine, spirits, and other things you need to have a responsible and enjoyable event.

This sign has "Googie architecture" all over it, with a compressed orange box with "Sigels Liquor" on a green post. The letters in "Sigels" have a comic book feel about them. There is a starburst at the top, and an orange rectangle with "Beer" inside. A yellow arrow points to the west on both sides, so the sign is slightly different if you're viewing it from the south or the north.

It's an impressive sign, to be sure, but you don't get the whole experience until you see it at night. Those bubbles will flash red, white, and green, giving the idea of downward motion, and you'll see "Sigels" illuminated in blue. "Liquor" and "Beer" remain constant in yellow, while the arrow is animated in red and yellow. There are also a few non-neon lights on that starburst at the top. I have a video here for those who can't make it to Dallas.

A sign with non-conforming spelling is mounted on the post, providing some history:

This Non-Conforming Sign designed by Marvin Sigel was built in the early 1950's. It was moved from Dallas, Tx. at Lovers Ln. to Greenville Avenue. It was refurbished to Code and installed here in January of 2017. Sign refurbished and installed by Starlight Sign of Denton, Tx.

---

As to its location, the sign was previously at the Addison Sigel's at 15003 Inwood Rd, Addison, TX, and is visible on Google Maps Street View prior to 2017. Sigel's declared bankruptcy in late 2016, and the Addison location was one of the casualties. By early 2017, the sign had returned to Dallas after having lived in Addison since 2009.

Where it becomes interesting is the general consensus that, prior to its relocation to Addison, the sign was at the Sigel's at 5636 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX until it closed in 2009. On her outstanding Flashback:Dallas site (see Related Website), Paula Bosse notes a discrepancy, indicating that the "non-conforming sign" was a little different from the sign that was at the Addison location:

This Non-Conforming Sign designed by Marvin Sigel was built in the early 1950s. It was moved from Dallas, TX at Lemmon Ave. & Inwood. After being granted a variance it was refurbished to Code and installed here in June of 2009. Sign refurbished and installed by Starlite Sign of Denton, TX.

Not "Lovers Ln", but "Lemmon Ave. & Inwood." She goes on to mention that the sign wasn't the only one of its kind, and that another one like it but smaller stood in front of one of the two Sigel's locations on Lovers Lane in Dallas, so maybe this is the second sign. There are all kinds of rhetorical questions to be asked here. Maybe she's right, but it's odd that, somewhere along the line, another sign was substituted when so much news was made in 2009 and 2017 of a very particular sign's having been relocated. Maybe the folks who did the blue sign goofed somewhere, which would explain the whole problem away if they put "Lovers Ln" in place of "Lemmon Ave".
