These colourful humming birds are busy flying around in gardens and parks looking for flowers to satisfy their insatiable hunger. The amount of energy they expend while looking for food or during their migration south requires them to visit between 1 and 3 thousand flowers a day. By carrying pollen from one plant to another, humming birds perform an essential role with respect to plant reproduction.
