Outside the Shrine of Christ the King is a bell tower with a bell that is 2.80 meters high and weighs 130 quintals (14560 lbs). It was cast from the bronze taken from enemy cannons captured during World War I (1915-18) and it is dedicated in remembrance of the fallen of all wars.

The bell contains an image of the Madonna and Child and the inscription

VOS ET IPSAM
CIVITATEM BENEDICIMUS

I BLESS YOU
AND YOUR CITY

The inscription is the closing of a letter that tradition says was written my the Virgin Mary to the City of Messina.
