The Roça de Belo Monte was once a plantation. With the independence of the country the company collapsed and the buildings slowly turned to ruins. In the past there was an attempt to renovate them and make here a hotel. It fail. But more recently a second attempt was successful and on the place now exists a luxury hotel.
The chess giant board can be seen on the grounds of such hotel. Visitors are welcome to the area and so the chess is playable by anyone.
