A lone mallard hen is preceding her brood of young ducks in anticipation of their long migration south. It is still warm outside, the sun is shining and the wind is almost non-existent on this beautiful day, but the nights are getting colder and the urge to depart for the south is strong. Owing to the presence of major wetlands habitat and the abundance of food, the mother hen opted to stay a few days longer before starting their journey. This will allow the young ducks to increase their fat reserves for the long road ahead.
