The former Narrabri gaol was constructed in 1880/81 to replace the original 1865 gaol which was proving to be too small. In the gaol section the external walls are 450mm thick and 3.5m high, the internal walls are 350mm thick. The stuccoed walls of the building are all solid brick are substantial in the residential section the external walls are 350mm thick,a timber verandah frames the main entrance.
The building is now used as the local heritage museum.
