Vorden Castle was first mentioned in 1315. The castle was under construction a military structure, and was inhabited from 1315. In 1580, during the Eighty Years' War, it was looted and restored 30 years later. Over the centuries, the house has been in the possession of various noble families, including that of Ripperda and from 1771 to 1974 in the Van der Borch family. After the Second World War the castle is empty and it is increasingly falling into disrepair. The castle is in deplorable condition when it comes into possession of Het Geldersch Landschap in 1974 together with the associated goods and land. The surrounding terrain is sold to the municipality of Vorden. In 1976 it was restored and functioned as the town hall of Vorden. In 2004, the (former) municipality of Vorden sold the castle to private individuals. These have restored the house to its former glory. The castle has since been used as a wedding venue and museum. The castle can be visited for a fee. Source: Wikipedia.
