This mosaic is best viewed from the 5th floor of the store, roughly in the southwest corner. There are viewing windows to get a good look at, such as the one pictured here, and the a sign describing the dome's history. The dome is sea of gorgeous iridescent blues with cold accents and many interesting contours. I was in this store many times before ever realizing this was here.

The sign on site reads:

"Unveiled on September 30, 1907 the dome is the world's largest example of an unbroken Tiffany favrile iridescent glass mosaic, covers 6000 square feet and contains 1.6 million pieces of glass. Built under the direct supervision of Mr. Tiffany, the dome is an example of his famous favrile process - a type of firing which allows glass to be made in an unlimited range of color and texture. The process of creating this dome took one and a half years to complete with over 50 artisans and scaffolding creating what one Chicago newspaper writer appropriately described as "like Michelangelo in our midst"."
