The Church of the Transfiguration dates back to 1881 when a group met to establish an Anglican congregation in the Blue Mountain Lake area. Four years later the church was built on donated land next to Steamboat Landing. New York City architect Manley Cutter drew up the plans, and the present log building was constructed by Thomas Wallace; dedication took place in July of 1885 by Bishop Doane.
The Meneely bell was donated by Mrs. Levi Morton in 1886, while the stained glass windows were provided by Henry Crane, church warden and treasurer of the Adirondack Railway. The 180-year-old harp was given to the church in 1957. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
