Designed by the Chicago School architects Holabird & Roche, this department store building was originally one of many on State Street in Chicago, a historic shopping district. It contains 650,000 square feet of usable space and is 10 stories high. It was made with steel frame construction and the exterior is glazed terra cotta with ornamentation.

Today the building is one of the central pieces of DePaul University's downtown campus. The ground level contains retail establishments while the upper floors contain classrooms, offices, student space, and a library.
