This peace pole is located on the grounds of the Lake Junaluska Memorial Chapel. The marker at its foot reads:
The Lake Junaluska Peace Pole was a gift from the Western North Carolina Conference in 2003 for permanent display at Lake Junaluska. Bishop Charlene Kammerer was at the bishop at that time.
From the dedication ceremony: “It is hoped that the presence of the Peace Pole on the Assembly grounds will be a constant reminder to God’s people everywhere to be in prayer for peace and to be peacemakers in God’s world.”
The Peace Pole is made from red cedar and is six-sided. The message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” is reflected in six languages chosen by the WNC Annual Conference Worship Committee – English, Spanish, Hmong, Cherokee, Korean, Khmer-Cambodian – remind us of our diversity and our global identity as United Methodists.
