The first tee of the Universal City disc golf course is on the back portion of the Universal City Park. The disc golf course is one of the attractions to the larger Universal City Park which has walking trails, five ball parks, a basketball court and a soccer/football field, besides the disc golf course. The disc golf begins and ends at the back few acres of the UC Park but most of the disc course meanders through the flood zone of Cibolo Creek as it passes through the surrounding neighborhood.
The Universal City disc golf course has some strengths and weaknesses. On the plus side, it is an 18 hole course that is designed to create technical challenges for the disc player. The pathways from tee to basket on all but a few holes are obstructed with tree trunks or tree branches which will challenge beginners but will hone the skills of the advanced players. The placement of the baskets sometimes are in awkward locations where the disc needs accurate throwing to keep within par scores. The weaknesses are in the poor signage to guide the player to the next tee pad. This is evident at the first tee where the information board next to the tee pad is a very amateur low-budget hand-painted map of the course, done in dark green and black paint. The identification signs at the tees (when present at all) are the same difficult to read green and black paint. It is easy to get confused on which basket you are at or which tee pad you are at because more of the baskets and the tees are unmarked. Most baskets have no numbers and only few tees have an instruction guide sign with its number. Also, there are several places where three holes or three tee pads are very close together, within sight of the others. Were they labeled, it would be much easier to know which to use. The paths between a completed basket and the next tee are not clearly marked in the middle part of the course and this compounds the lack of numbering of the tees and of the baskets.
