FR Au cours des siècles, Rians aura eu sur le même emplacement trois églises successives, placées sous le même vocable et disposées de la même façon. En 1092, est citée pour la première fois l’église Notre-Dame, qui est alors donnée au chapitre de Saint-Sauveur d’Aix-en-Provence.

En 1584, sa voûte s’étant écroulée, une église nouvelle est construite, mais plafonnée au lieu d’être voûtée. Agrandie et restaurée, elle durera jusqu’au dernier quart du XIXème siècle.

Pendant les années qui suivirent la Révolution, les habitants souhaitaient une nouvelle église, mais les uns la voulaient sur l’emplacement de l’ancienne, les autres sur celui de la chapelle de l’Annonciade. L’avis des premiers ayant prévalu, l’église projetée fut mise en chantier en 1880, sur l’emplacement traditionnel. Les travaux menés d’après les plans de l’architecte abbé Pougnet furent terminés au milieu de 1882 et l’église inaugurée pour la fête de saint Laurent. Le 26 avril 1894, Mgr Migrot la consacrait. Comme celles qui la précédaient, l’église actuelle n’a qu’une nef de 15 mètres divisée en cinq travées, chaque travée portant une tribune ; des chapelles occupent les travées, elles sont couvertes d’un arc à plein cintre soutenu par deux courtes mais fortes colonnes, lesquelles supportent en même temps les piliers carrés.

Au-dessus des chapelles, une tribune bordée de balustres fait le tour de tout l’édifice ; une arcade gothique la recouvre entre chaque travée ; dans chacun des murs latéraux une rosace disperse sa lumière dans la nef. Cette longue, large et haute nef est couverte d’une voûte à croisée d’ogives aux nervures venant tomber sur de petites colonnes. De même les arcs doubleaux sont de style ogival.

L’abside à sept pans a la même hauteur que la nef. Sa voûte est formée de huit nervures qui tombent sur les colonnettes prises entre chaque pan. Sept hautes fenêtres y sont ouvertes. Le chœur est entouré de boiseries et de stalles finement sculptées.

La façade est encadrée par une vaste ogive et accotée par deux tourelles que surmontent des clochetons. Son faîte sur lequel court une balustrade porte en son centre un pilier carré qui sert de socle à une grande statue de la Vierge. Une rosace mesurant 5 mètres de diamètre orne cette façade. Un porche triangulaire, que supporte un groupe de colonnettes, fait accéder dans le vaste vaisseau.

L’édifice étant situé au sommet du village, un escalier de plusieurs dizaines de marches y faits accéder.

Bien à part de l’église, presque à son chevet, s’élève le clocher, haute tour carrée qui est tout ce qui reste de l’ancienne église.

Dans une chapelle on remarque la statue d’une vierge noire, Notre-Dame de Nazareth. Cette statue remonterait au XIVème siècle. La tribune possède des retables qui proviennent de la chapelle de l’Annonciade. Ils sont classés par les beaux-art
EN Over the centuries, Rians will have had three successive churches on the same site, placed under the same name and arranged in the same way. In 1092, the church of Notre-Dame was mentioned for the first time, which was then given to the chapter of Saint-Sauveur d'Aix-en-Provence.

In 1584, when its vault collapsed, a new church was built, but capped instead of vaulted. Enlarged and restored, it lasted until the last quarter of the 19th century.

In the years following the Revolution, the inhabitants wanted a new church, but some wanted it on the site of the old one, others on the site of the Annonciade chapel. The opinion of the first ones having prevailed, the planned church was started in 1880, on the traditional site. The work carried out according to the plans of the abbot Pougnet was completed in mid-1882 and the church was inaugurated for the feast of St. Lawrence. On April 26, 1894, Bishop Migrot consecrated it. Like its predecessors, the current church has only a 15-metre nave divided into five bays, each bay carrying a tribune; chapels occupy the bays and are covered by a semicircular arch supported by two short but strong columns, which at the same time support the square pillars.

Above the chapels, a tribune lined with balusters encircles the entire building; a Gothic archway covers it between each bay; in each of the side walls a rosette scatters its light in the nave. This long, wide and high nave is covered by a vault with ribbed vaults that fall on small columns. Similarly, the double arches are ogival in style.

The seven-sided apse has the same height as the nave. Its vault consists of eight ribs that fall on the columns between each side. Seven high windows are open. The choir is surrounded by finely carved woodwork and stalls.

The facade is framed by a vast ogive and flanked by two turrets surmounted by bell towers. Its ridge, on which a balustrade runs, bears in its centre a square pillar that serves as a base for a large statue of the Virgin Mary. A rose window measuring 5 metres in diameter adorns this facade. A triangular porch, supported by a group of columns, leads into the vast vessel.

The building being located at the top of the village, a staircase of several dozen steps leads to it.

Well apart from the church, almost at its bedside, stands the bell tower, a tall square tower that is all that remains of the old church.

In a chapel there is a statue of a black virgin, Our Lady of Nazareth. This statue is believed to date back to the 14th century. The gallery has altarpieces from the chapel of the Annonciade. They are classified by the fine arts
