This Bridge is known as the "Old French Bridge" as it was built during the French colonial era. From what I can gather—the Bridge was constructed in the 1880s as part of an overall attempt to open Laos to commerce. The Bridge was originally a railroad bridge (there is an abandoned train/tourist attraction on the Don Knon side of the Bridge). The Bridge links the two main islands of the 4,000 Islands: Don Det - Don Khon (Don = island).
Now, the Bridge serves foot and motorbike traffic between the two islands. There is a village on the Don Khon side of the Bridge. From the Bridge, a grand view of the Mekong River can be seen. The Bridge is in good repair. The waymark location is the Bridge centre.
