The Tyler Courier-Times / Tyler, Texas / 14 Jan 1940

"WORK PROCEEDING ON JACKSONVILLE ATHLETIC PLANT - Work is progressing rapidly on Jacksonville's Tomato Bowl athletic plant construction. WPA workmen are dismantling the old East Side school building near the business district and will salvage materials from it for use in the new athletic plant, which will cost more than $100,000. All woodwork in the old building has been removed, and workmen are removing the roof, planning to dismantle the structure by floors. The project at present is employing about 125 men, the full force not having gone to work. A part of the force is quarrying red stone near Jacksonville for use in the new plant, which will be ready to use next football season."
