When Dr. Henry Clay Bostwick arrived in Tacoma during the railway boom of the 1870s he acquired this triangle property to be his home. Through the following decade Tacoma, the City of Destiny, grew quickly and his property was becoming the civic and entertainment district.

Bostwick redeveloped this property to build a hotel in the upper three floors, while bottom floor was to be retail.

With the evolution of Tacoma, the Bostwick did the same. Eventually it became run down. And while it remained retail on the main floor, the upper levels became vacant. In 2010 the new owner renovated the upper three floors and rents them out.

Today, the Bostwick continues to provide character in the Theatre District.
