Poet's Pathway
Oft From Memory
William Pittman Lett (1861-1899)
Oft from memory breathes a sigh,
when retrospection's light appears
Along the maze of scenes gone by,
Revealing joys of other years.
And when the blisses of the past
Crowd recollection like a dream:
Is seems as if indeed too fast
We've glided down life's turbid stream.

The poet's Pathway honours Canada's poets, especially Ottawa's historic poets, and the lands that inspired them. It memorializes the literary Heritage of the Confederation poets and francophone poets of the time –– the earliest voices of our distinctive Canadian tradition.
